Percussion
Spent my first 20 year between NYC and East Hampton and loved the city but was fortunate enough to experience and explore the natural beauty of Long Island’s East End. The two regenerative and stabilizing currents in my life have been my love of music and my connection to wilderness.
My musical fun— I don’t like to call it education— started with piano lessons which I cherished. Next I moved to percussion instruments and discovered I had a natural talent for rhythm. Played the drum kit with many bands throughout my college experience and formed the group, Swamp Gas, and recorded an album at A and R studios in NYC for Buddah records. Played with, Manhattan Transfer, for a brief time but left after experiencing severe ear pain and hearing loss but continued to back up some well known performers such as, The Shirelles, The Drifters, Del Shannon etc. Gradually transitioned to hand drums and less volume venues. I had studied Tabla drums at Wesleyan University but my love for Afro Cuban music got me started at Boys harbor and lessons on Conga drums with Louis Bauzo. That is the beginning and the middle of my story because it is not over yet thanks to two incredibly creative musicians, also gifted percussionists, that I have the unique pleasure to play with. With three funky percussionists It’s hard to lose the groove!
