About

Solar Wind Sounds first convened in 2016 when keyboardist Dee Green and bassist Matt Ellison chanced upon an old friend, percussionist Rick Salter, at a music filled birthday BBQ for Bruce Follmer, a seasoned broadcast and sound engineer and a close friend of each of the band members. Over the years, all three had expanded their musical horizons in diverse directions, and they bonded quickly through their shared passion for musical interplay and improvisation. Soon they were gathering wherever they could – the Hamptons, Fire Island, Manhattan, and Florida – finding ever new pleasures in making music together. In particular what they found most exciting was their common enjoyment of playing down covers of popular music as a scaffolding, over which they were each able, with the support of the others, to layer new flavors and ideas as they explored unexplored undiscovered improvisational dimensions of rhythm and song.

Here is a sampling of their repertoire.
